Light Up the Village
Light Up the Village was a celebration of the character and resilience of the people of the small, regional town of Gin Gin and surrounding districts. A culmination of a series of arts-led workshops that focused on providing opportunities for locals to connect and celebrate their community as they deal with the hardships of drought, bushfires and the isolating circumstances inflicted by Covid19. Over 500 people enjoyed the twilight event in the grounds of the Gin Gin Historical Society on October 17th, 2020.
The evening featured performances by locals who were part of a songwriting mentorship with popular country singer Mark Lavender and a number of women who were mentored by musical director Laura Lingwood. Tyrone from Circus Fire & Stunts provided a Go With The Flow workshop session that attracted it’s own audience as the fire-sticks looked spectacular at dusk.. The audience were treated to a performance by cabaret group Delta Divas and were also able to explore the grounds and discover sculptures and digital installations designed by community groups. .
We thank Gin Gin Landcare, Gin Gin Historical Society and the Gin Gin Scout Group and our volunteers for giving us a hand.
