Crash Box Crew
Crash Box Crew is an arts engagement program for the public high school students within the IGNITE program - providing an alternate schooling program for youth-at-risk that no longer fit within mainstream public education. Identifying a gap in arts education, Creative Regions received support for this pilot program in 2020 from the Westpac Foundation Rural Community Grant to trial the delivery of arts activities with the goal of building teamwork, mateship and bonds within this cohort.
With support from the Industry Reference Group of the Bundaberg Youth Hub led by principals in the Bundaberg region, this program was written to align with current curriculum, exceeding expectations from leadership, teachers and students. One parent noted 'my child has no problem getting on that bus on Thursdays because of Crash Box Crew. Trust me, you're making a difference'.
Testimonial:
Di Wills has been running Crash Box Crew with a group of students from the Ignite Program. The level of participation and genuine engagement that Di has been able to achieve is amazing. All staff of the program have made comment on the positive influence Crash Box Crew is having on not just individual students but also the program as a whole. Intended outcomes are being surpassed and the positive impact is very much appreciated. - Cameron Young, Ignite Campus Coordinator.
