Project Description

Project Brief

A long-term initiative using placemaking principles and creative arts to encourage community use of public spaces.

Place Activation at Creative Regions means utilising creative people and innovative town planning practices to design vibrant, livable spaces. It targets places within the Bundaberg Region that the community wants to reimagine or reinvent. Through engaging creative people and planning principles in conversation with the community, these spaces can contain projects that challenge these perceptions, reflect the spirit of the place and its people, and ignite a sense of community pride and belonging.

Creative Regions’ Place Activation philosophy is developed around the following key principles:

  • Genuine community engagement and participation, remaining responsive and adaptive to community needs;
  • Telling stories of place;
  • Artist-led engagement;
  • Fostering innovation in others; and
  • Promoting artistic quality.

The following projects have been implemented since the program began in late 2013:

In October 2017, Dr Wendy Madsen from CQUniversity published an article resulting from an evaluation of some of our key Place Activation Projects to date.  Read about there outcomes at the link below.
