We’re staring up a new writing program for teenagers who love and live to tell stories. ‘The MisAdventurers – explorations in writing’ is a series of writing development workshops for teenagers. Kicking off at the start of school term in 2017, our group will explore different genres, techniques, and new and innovative storytelling practices.
Designed for high school students between the ages of 12 and 16, these workshops aim to inspire young writers and to teach them to be confident storytellers across multiple genres and platforms.
WHEN is it? Workshops will be held at Creative Regions HQ on Perry Street in North Bundaberg once a fortnight during school terms. A fridge friendly version of dates and themes will be available shortly. Workshops will be for one and a half hours on a Tuesday afternoons between 4:000pm and 5:30pm. The program offers a total of fifteen workshops, and at the low price of $15 per workshop, it’s outrageously good value (there’ll be discounts for full-term or program commitments, too!).
HOW does it work?
Students and parents complete the registration form and pay a workshop fee. Members of the Misadventurers can also get discounted tickets to attend Bundaberg’s writers festival in October called ‘WriteFest’.
‘Misadventurers: explorations in writing’ is all about providing aspiring writers and storytellers with a safe and welcoming space to develop their skills, explore their creativity, and learn new writing techniques and narrative practices. We will guide your child to explore contemporary and innovative writing practices, investigating how stories are told and enjoyed in the modern world, and the importance of clear communication.
The workshops will be led by Dr Sasha Mackay who is a researcher, writer and teacher with a PhD in Media and Communication and a keen interest in the ways new media technologies are shaping the ways we tell, share and consume stories. Sasha is joined by Di Wills who has a wealth of experience in youth engagement, theatre, performing arts, and is a past President of the Bundaberg Writers Club. Di and Sasha are very excited to be delivering this program together.
You’ll be able to pay per workshop or per term. Discounts for term bookings. We’re conscious that young people have a lot of extra-curricular activities, so we’re doing our best to ensure schedules and pricings are as accessible as possible.
Workshop dates TBA at this stage. For now we can confirm that workshops will be once a fortnight, on Tuesday afternoons at Creative Regions HQ. We’ll provide registrants with a fridge-friendly version of dates in the new year.
