Auspicing a Future Leader in the Museum Sector
Bianca Acimovic
Bianca Acimovic is trained as a visual artist, graduating with a Bachelor of Visual Arts Fine Arts from the University of Southern Queensland. Practicing as an artist in the discipline of installation, Bianca has exhibited in Melbourne, Brisbane, Bundaberg and Toowoomba.
In 2008 Bianca completed her Masters in Museum Studies at the University of Queensland, graduating with a Dean’s commendation for High Achievement.
Over the past 8 years Bianca has been worked in a range of Galleries and Arts organisations thoughout Queensland including the Queensland Public Art Agency, University of Queensland Art Museum and the Queensland Art Gallery/ Gallery Of Modern Art. Currently Bianca is employed as the Exhibitions Officer at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery.
In 2008, Creative Regions Ltd auspiced a grant to the Regional Arts Fund Quick Response Grants to assist Bianca's attendance at the International Conference on the Inclusive Museum for 2008 held at the National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden, Netherlands. The conference took place over 4 days, from the 8-11 June 2008. The Inclusive Museum conference featured some of the worlds leading practitioners and thinkers in museum studies. The main speakers of the conference include Marcus Wood, Katérina Stenou, Lejo Schenk, Amareswar Galla, Steven Engelsman, Alissandra Cummins and Tomur Atagok. With these main speakers and many more leading thinkers undertaking workshops and presentations, the objective of Bianca attending the Inclusive Museum conference was to broaden her awareness of the current and future considerations and directions for museums on an international level.
Bianca was also a presenter at the conference. The 30 minute presentation aligned with the overarching concerns of the conference that include visitors, forms of engagement and modalities of representation. The content of Bianca's presentation was drawn from her Masters research into regional galleries operating with Local government, in particular how galleries in regional Queensland are responding to the reformed local government boundaries of 2008.
Follow Bianca’s successful participation and involvement in the 2008 International Conference on the Inclusive Museum Bianca is ICOM’s Youth Representative and assistant to the Chair of the 2009 International Conference on the Inclusive Museum.
