Community Arts and Cultural Development
CREATIVE GENERATORS in 2010
In 2009, the Creative Regions team travelled more than 32,000 kilometres across Central and South West Queensland to deliver art services to 17 local government areas. 169 people have participated in Culture Clinics and a further 9096 people have participated in the nearly 200 workshops, planning sessions, meetings, projects and events coordinated by Creative Regions in these 17 areas in 2009.
The Pilot Regional Arts Service Delivery program was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate what putting community cultural development practitioners into regional communities can do to build capacity and generate excitement about the arts. Some initial scepticism in some regions who felt they had been overconsulted and not seen results, turned around and became engaged in the pilot’s processes.
2009 has been about getting to know communities, their needs and their dreams. The majority of regions need to build further capacity and confidence, particularly in the fields of project development, management and funding writing before they will be ready to implement strategic projects to lift the profile of the arts in their region and across the state. This is why in 2010 we have proposed altering our methodology to focus primarily on providing advice and linkages, assisting in the development of project concepts, developing funding applications in conjunction with communities and kicking off several strategic projects in late 2010 into 2011.
We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our partners in service delivery. Our relationship with Cicadas@RAPAD has particularly benefited through collaboration on the Wearable Art Project financed through the Regional Arts Fund. We have also enjoyed forging partnerships with staff at Arts Queensland, the Australia Council for the Arts and other service providers in Queensland.
In 2010 the program has been renamed Creative Generators. Please see Arts Queensland's artbeat: Regional Arts Strategy for more information about the program being funded across the state.
Creative Regions will continue service delivery targetting strategic projects. More information about the 2010 service delivery model can be found by clicking here.
