Roland Thring and the Year His Christmases All Came At Once

The voice over you can hear is an ABC Radio, Wide Bay interview with Rod Ainsworth in May 2009 including some script reading.

Roland Thring is a shrinking violet. Feeling isolated from life, he longs to be a radio star; taking inspiration from his father’s late-night amateur radio hobby. Climbing his dad’s radio tower one night, Roland is hit by a bolt of lightning and soon finds that he has some strange powers. Roland soon learns that Christmas isn’t as bad as he has always made it out to be – once he figures out what a gift really is.

Creative Regions is developing this new professional theatre production for children and families to be presented in a one-week season in Cairns through JUTE Theatre's INDIE Season from 16-19 December. See www.jute.com.au.

It is hoped that the production will also show for a short season in Bundaberg. This is yet to be advised.

A creative development was hosted in Bundaberg from 18-20 May with artists from around the country. Written, produced and directed by Rod Ainsworth, the creative team includes Bundaberg Composer Peter Rankine, Dramaturg Peter Matheson, Designer Dominie Hooper and cast Susan Prince (Cairns) and Finn O'Branagain (Darwin).

The creative development of ROLAND THRING has been supported by project partners, Bundaberg Regional Council, JUTE Theatre’s INDIE Program (Cairns), Bundaberg Community Development, Bundaberg Players Incorporated and Switchboard Arts/The Emerge Project (Brisbane). Creative Regions thanks these organisations for their generous support.
