Creative Regions Ltd has been working with the Australian South Sea Islander community in Bundaberg through the community cultural development program of the Bundaberg Regional Council.
The Australian South Sea Islander Community in Bundaberg would like to develop projects and programs that showcase their culture to the broader community, provides a keeping place and interprets key historically significant sites in the region and offers their community sustainable employment opportunities.
A Steering Group has been formed under the auspices of the Kenalwyn Neighbourhood Centre. This group of people are helping to drive forward the first key project - the development of an interpretive plan that will identify key sites that can be enhanced through various forms of interpretation including signage and public art. The project will also develop key partnerships to build a sustainable model for bus tours to the region's significant ASSI sites.
